I got the plates from the recycling centre too, they must of cost me less than £5.00 and the nippers were about the same from E-Bay.
I really enjoyed doing it but I can't say its something I will be repeating as it was very painful on my hands.
Its very satisfying to do...you wrap the plates in a quilt or towel and smash with a hammer.......
Then use the nips to shape the china...you can make perfect little squares but I wanted it more free form...and with my hands I think that would of taken a hundred years!
I found that by grabbing a handful of pieces and working fast the shapes seemed to fall into place whereas if I took my time and painstakingly sorted through the shapes it seemed to be much harder.
Here is the finished table....I have to wait 24 hours for the pieces to set before I can grout them.
I made a little heart from the handles of two cups, and I loved including the back stamps/makers mark . It's by no means perfect but for a first attempt I am sort of satisfied..
It looks wonderful. I love the colours and what a great idea to use the backstamps too. M x
