More finds and a make x....

Found these wonderful side plates the other day while treasure hunting....|They are not my usual type of purchase as I prefer older vintage pieces but I just couldn't resist them.

They are so whimsical and humorous...portraying a typical English summertime!!They are from 1959!
Found these delish lickel plates...much more "me" and I love them x

And finally two art deco dinner plates....they are much smaller than modern dinner plates which is very helpful as I am trying to cut down on my portions.

Found this piece of material for 50p and the larger crochet hook for 50p too!

Was my only granddaughters 1st birthday so as a pressie I found out her mummy's dolly from the attic ...Katie- May is 23 years old and was bought on my daughter Madison's 1st birthday.

So I got out my fabrics and sewed a dress for her..........

First dress I have ever made, had to make it all up myself too as I didn't have a pattern...but boy did I pay for it.....my hand is frizzling away like its plugged into an electrical socket....no more sewing for me until after my operation!!!!!
Hope you are all enjoying the spring sunshine x x

Wedding Hair!

This weekend was the wedding that I have been resting my hand for!! My beautiful cousin got married in Somerset. It was a really beautiful wedding. As her wedding present I did her and her two bridesmaids hair.....

It has been over a year since I did any ones hair....and I was a tiny bit worried...but everything went without a hitch............ here's the brides hair as she sat down for me to do the last little tidying up bits...re tong the bit that had fallen down and affix her little veil....

I was due to have my last operation yesterday but the surgeon postponed it till the end of the month.....

Doing this wedding made me realise that I can't wait to start advertising in sunny Devon to do weddings and proms......

Here's me with my Poundland bow in my hair....I was looking for a fascinator in all the posh shops and then walked into Poundland and saw this....and I love it!!!

I do love weddings!!!!

more treasures

Over the last week I have picked up a few treasures. These little vintage mice are my favourites, I know that they are battered and chipped but it makes me love them even more.
This lovely pink rag rug is now next to my bed and my toes love it in the morning!

How very posh is this toast rack with little dishes for preserves and butter!
And last but not least some wonderful vintage earrings. I have a huge collection of modern costume jewellery but am now concentrating on vintage pieces
And of course all finds should be celebrated with a cup of tea, a slice of cake and some spring daffodils xx

February...................

Sorry I haven't got around to posting for quite a while, been very busy......my beautiful little grand daughter Esme came to visit with her mummy and daddy ....and I was very busy being a full time nanny again x x

As my hands were behaving I tried to get on and teach myself crochet. The hubster came back with this 1967 pamphlet which really helped, and three crochet hooks as a surprise present for me x
This is all I managed to do before the pins and needles crept in, so much for my good patch! Will have to wait till after April to really get into learning!!
He has no one but himself to blame if he ends up with one of these snazzy ties for Christmas this year.
Haven't done much treasure hunting...seem to be in a beginning of the year, grey, miserable slump, but here is one rosy cup that managed to cheer me up when I found it...
and another......
and a third.....does anyone know what these flowers are?

Made some rosewater madeleine's.....a very delicate and understated cake which are my favourite at the moment. Quite a lengthy preparation time, but then they only take three minutes to cook!
Found this lovely little pin at my local charity shop, has a few diamantes missing but they are pennies on line and I am going to order them and replace them...
Hope you all had a lovely valentines day...as usual I got spoilt rotten x x
I am a very lucky girl.
I haven't forgotten my giveaway...I am going to sit down and work out who has entered and then do the big draw! Sorry for the delays...time has raced away me and I haven't been on top of everything!

You wait 46 years for a quilt to come along....and three arrive at once.....

Hello my friends, here is quilt number three, which I have managed to finish. Its a belated Christmas present for a dear aunt. I did complete most of it before my hands got bad, and as this good patch seems to be lasting I thought I would finish it!
It's another lap quilt , this time with a more contempary feeling......
Its in a light brown to pale green palate......hope she likes it!! x x
Been enjoying my cake again after falling off the dieting waggon......suddenly I am using my china a lot more!
What do you think of this roll of wallpaper that has fallen into my lap...it's very 1950's and heavily embossed! I am sure that someone out there would love it out there..........I am going to list it on my other blog Sidmouth Poppy Treasures.
I also made two denim flower corsages......
Just have to buy some brooch backs off of e-bay......will try making some from my stack of vintage fabrics next.
Am a bit frustrated as my last operation on my right hand has been put back from the very beginning of March to the very end of March, which may interfere with my planned Royal Wedding High Tea Party!!! I may have to ask my guests to help prepare everything!!!

Please don't forget my giveaway explained on this post...it's run over from December! Good luck and please tell your friends about it x

My Second Quilt!

I have just finished my second quilt ever! A rosy lap quilt! It's only taken me a year due to manky hands interuptus!

I am waiting for my last hand op and going through a bit of a good patch so I got my sewing out! It felt so good to be doing something!!! Although I have to take it steady and stop as soon as I get fizzling (pins and needles) slowly but surely I managed to finish her...my Winter Rose quilt.

Fiver loves sitting on it and often jumped up while I was sewing!

It's so lovely and snuggley. It's quite a heavy weight quilt as its made from upholstery or curtain fabric samples, but its thick and warm and will be robust enough to be taken to picnics and beaches in the summer and used as a rug!

I have always dreamed of making quilts and now I have finished two!!!

One I sewed completely by hand....but this one , I did the patchwork by hand and the quilting by machine........
Although I bound it by hand............it's been a long hard slog due to my bad hands......
But well worth it and I LOVE IT!!!!!

How Trendy Are Granny Squares!

I have been wanting to learn how to crochet for years now...and have finally ordered some books from the library to teach myself..
I fancy learning granny squares to make a thrown for the beach and flowers, and snowflakes...
Didn't realise how uber trendy I was till I saw this picture from Paul Smiths collection

Mmmm a bit far out for me!!! Who knew granny squares could be so trendy and probably so very, very, very expensive!!

Oh these dark days......

Oh its so hard to get motivated with these dark days and early evenings......I always seem soooo tired!

Today I sat snuggled beside the lamp.......sewing.....

It's so nice sewing a quilt as its draped across your lap keeping you all nice and snuggly....

The only thing missing was a pot of tea and a cake! I am desperately trying to loose weight, I don't think I ever ate toooooo much but rather my diet consisted of all the wrong things...infact it was 75% cake!!!! I am afraid I am having rather severe cake withdrawal symptoms!!! Somehow a banana just don't cut it!!!! x hope you are all getting through these long dark days in your own way x

More Finds!

Look what The Hubster came home with today!!!
Four beautiful tea pots!!
A beautiful Sadler willow patterned one...........

A very pretty rose one....
A yellow beehive shaped one , I think it looks 1930's but if you know better please let me know x

And big brown Betty.... she is a beauty!
If you know anything about the history/age of these tea pots , I would be very grateful if you would let me know x

I was also faced with a bit of a dilemma! As The Hubster also brought home a new Kenwood.....

And a Kitchen Aid, I must admit I was very tempted...........

But really could not bear the thought of giving up my retro Kenwood!!!!!! x Till next time x
