Less twee more me!

Just moved into a new much smaller house and need to put my own stamp on it......I love, LOVE, LOVE flowers...but thought that my bedroom was looking rather twee......So I decided to be brave and attempt a colour..... and not just any colour ........gulp....black!!!!!!
All through the first coat I was thinking ....what have I done and a lesser mortal would have run screaming for the white paint...even the hubster walked in and went "Oh GOD!"
But I stayed with my "vision" and was convinced that once I put my "bits" back it would look nice......
And I think it has...has made both my mini bunting, and crocheted bunting and my floral pictures POP!

I hope it's worked.....and I hope you all like it too!!! It now looks a lot less like a flower fairy has come in and upchucked everywhere.....given it a more contemporary edge..... and it is only on one wall...the rest of the room is light and bright and white!

Mirror mirror.....

I had an idea...voiced it out into the ether of Facebook and lo and behold....
A few days later the post man brought me these lovelies...A housewarming present from a dear aunt.....
Due to ill health I have recently "downsized" to a smaller lickel house.....what a relief....no large garden to tackle....I am that gardened out , it caused me so much stress not be able cope with my old garden that  I have not even attempted pots! Maybe next year I will be ready to face growing things again.......
The new house is a delight.....It takes an hour to clean from top to bottom....and over looks the river...although I fear my lie ins will be forever shattered by dog owners howling at their dogs to come back.......but that is a small price to pay to live in such a lovely location....it's lovely now but I cannot begin to imagine what it will be like in the summer to grab a patchwork quilt, a cushion and a book and walk out of my front door and go a few paces to sit under a tree on the river bank.
Of course a new house house meant decorating ...but I am doing it,slowly but surely...I went mad on a good day and painted the front room thinking I was "normal".....I couldn't walk for three days!!!!!!!!!!So even though I want it all done NOW!!!!!!! I am pacing myself.....Have practically finished my bathroom now though....It was lime green, lime green walls and lime green tiles....now some people may like lime green but I could not live with it...it had to go.....Now I am not flush and pennies do not stretch far and the lime green tiles would have cost far more to replace than I could afford and the thought of DIY made my heart sink...so a tin of tile paint was procured. It's resulted into two tone white but I will have to live with it for now....
I hope to distract from that with flowery goodness.....I put up rosey curtains from Popy's old bedroom as the grey blind seemed harsh......and all the bits are from my old house.......
The hubster has got quite good at putting things up!
It's been fun deciding what goes where.......and what to use from from old house......

But here at last are the stars of this post....my beautiful vintage hand mirrors....
I love them so much...and knowing me will probably not be able to be content with these five...especially now the car boot season has started...I suspect that little expanse of wall will one day be mirrors from ceiling to floor.......What will you be looking out for this car boot season?

Less is more?

Less is more.......

Or is it sometimes...more is more....

When is enough is enough?
Is it now or never to stop?
Or am I, as the hubster says as mad as a hatter.....

Furniture Makeovers

I got given some beautiful yellow roses and thought I would base my breakfast tray around them...I suddenly realised that out of all my hundreds of tea cups I only have one yellow mis matched tea cup and saucer, and I love lemon yellow!!!!!
I put the roses in one of my prized possessions ..an old crazed, chipped and dare I say it very well "aged" Sadler rose bud tea pot....its old, beat up and cost me 50p from a bootie....but I adore its faded grandeur ....I thought about bleaching it up but decided I loved it warts and all .
Got no yellow sugar bowls to match though!!!!
But a beautiful yellow daisy teapot!
mmmmmmmmmm....
A pale lemon breakfast tray x
Decided to get cracking and make over three pieces of small furniture I have had lying around the house for quite a while!A standard lamp....
A beautiful tapestry fire screen I use infront of the fire when its not lit...
And a small table.....a lovely colour...but scuffed and scratched...and I found a small plaque that said Harrods ,SW, London on it....How gert posh is I! I have a  table from Harrods!
Cracked out the old faithfuls...I cannot believe how many things I have painted from these two tins...
If it stands still long enough in my house it gets painted.......first coat on and I got bored waiting for it to dry...so I started playing with the camera.....
I use this tea pot, covered sugar bowl and jug to keep leads, headphones and cards in.....
The pink tea cup lamp my daughter made me.
My picture wall....
My huge over sized lampshade and comfy sofa covered with the first quilt I ever made...
My fireplace cupboard..the first "old" thing I bought and painted for my home....
I love the deep raspberry on my wall...it changes to a different hue as the light changes throughout the day and makes the room warm and cosy.....
My cushions....bought and chucked together...even if.....
they don't match!
Second coat on and I stopped for a bit of crinoline lady tea......
And here they all are......
Distressed and waxed..the hubster walked in and went"oh...you've rubbed a bit too much off of the lamp"...Poppy walked in and said "oh...you need to rub a bit more off of the lamp"...so I figure I did it just right.....Ok...What can I paint next.......
